2015 Pievalta San Paolo Verdicchio Riserva
Pievalta’s San Paolo Verdicchio Riserva is made with 100% Verdicchio grapes from the single vineyard of San Paolo. It is a 3ha site at 200-300 meters above sea level with a northeastern exposure on Monte Follonica hillside on the right bank of the Esino River. Soil type is sandstone.
San Paolo Verdicchio is harvested in late August for a direct pressing and fermentation in stainless steel, ageing is then followed in stainless steel for 14 months on its lees.
The area of Castelli di Jesi has a microclimate well suited for light and fresh Verdicchio expressions. Clay and limestone amplify minerality and freshness of fruit. A common note of all Verdicchio is often described as bitter almond and then with age taking on a sweeter marzipan note. On the nose, this wine has delicate notes of yellow fruit, aromatic herbs, citrus, and almond. In the mouth, it is multi layered and intensely mineral. Verdicchio pairs best with seafood dishes. Due to the highly acidic nature of Verdicchio fritto misto (fried fish) is a great choice.
