Friuli Venezia Giulia lies in the top right corner of Italy, between Austria, Slovenia, the Adriatic Sea, and Veneto. Although the region is relatively small compared to the rest of Italy, it ranks among the best for producers of white wines. There are 10 DOCs and 4 DOCGs. While there are many international varieties planted here indigenous varietals shine including whites - Friulano, Ribolla Gialla, Pinot Grigio and Malvasia, sweet wines made for local grapes Verduzzo and Picolit and intriguing reds made from Refosco, Scioppettino and Pignolo.
