100% Nerello Mascalese from 70-110 year old vines in the most prestigious area of the Etna DOC. The Ciauria has been fermented in stainless steel and has also undergone malolactic fermentation. It has spent six months in French oak and had at least six months of ageing in the bottle before its release. The combination of the altitude, 2,000 feet above sea level, and the rich, mineral soil, give the wine extraordinary aromatic profile. The fruit is fresh and energetic, whilst the six months spent in second-fill oak barrels adds a little texture and spice.

The Media says:
Jancis Robinson: "Interesting grassy note to the fruit here. Very unusual flavours, typically Italian acid structure and firm tannin, but with a flavour group all of its own. Enjoyably different. (RH)" 16.5 points (on the previous vintage)
Decanter 91pt"The nose is driven by sweet wild fruit merging into blueberries and Morello cherries with a tropical, mango edge. This finishes on tobacco and herbs, rustic tannins and a lightly bitter note"
James Suckling 94pt 2019. A medium-bodied red with aromas of stewed and dried strawberries, grapefruit zest, dried herbs, five spice and ash. More juicy red berries, citrus peel and herbal notes on the palate, framed by medium, silky tannins. Better from 2022, but already a joy to taste.
